Proverbs are easy to say but often hard to accomplish. The same may be true of parents and discipline. But the Words of Solomon in the book of Proverbs give us two encouragements:

1.       Disciplining children has always been a challenge.2. Discipline is as old as parents and children.

These proverbs are more law than gospel. For Christians then, they are guides to follow. Christian parents know the forgiveness of Jesus and will find comfort they need when they have failed. Knowing that love of Jesus will in turn warm their resolve, giving them courage and strength to continue to discipline with firm love.(NIV paraphrased)

©       Proverbs15:32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but one who heeds correction gains understanding.

©       Proverbs 22:6 Start children off in the way they should go and when they are old they will not turn from it.

©       Proverbs 29:15 Children left undisciplined disgrace their mother.

©       Proverbs 29:17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.
